Ghent in Colour II is the sequel to the successful historical image collection Ghent in Colour.
This unique photo book offers a remarkable glimpse into a city in changing times. German occupations and military parades reveal harsh times. The powder keg of ever-increasing industry combined with labor resistance resulted in strikes led by socialist figurehead Edward Anseele. Ghent, a city of transition but also of steadfastness. A city full of hardheads, plant-pullers, and merrymakers. A gigantic casino on the Coupure, the Select cinema, vanished cafés and restaurants—all signals of a city seeking entertainment. Some places have disappeared, but the spirit remains: residents seek entertainment, regardless of the time.
Ghent in Color II shows a city without green Gilbertkes, without a city hall, or major thoroughfares. A city with ice on the Leie River, with children playing on the Vlaamse Kaai, with and without enemy occupation, with workers' uprisings, and above all, with history. A city with personal stories and a rich history. Ghent, a city of many black-and-white views, is once again taking on color today.

History is shaped not only by what remains, but also by what has disappeared.
These photographs, from private and public archives, were collected by Korneel Bostyn. All images were digitally remastered and colorized. During this process, particular attention was paid to achieving historical accuracy in terms of color.
